From the first of August to the 8th of September, the Galata Museo del Mare in Genoa hosts the 6th edition of the International Contemporary Art Biennale Le Latitudini dell’Arte, organized by Art Commission in collaboration with the Galata Museo del Mare and MAIIIM.
The exhibition, which has become a well-regarded event in the international contemporary art scene over time, catalyzes artistic and cultural exchanges between Italy and other European countries, acting as a bridge for constructive dialogues and creative confrontations. Over the years, the Biennale has managed to weave a network of collaborations and connections among artists and curators, involving countries such as Finland, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. This year, Switzerland is the main country featured in the artistic and cultural exchange, with the Sea theme. Liquid Paradigm. Visions of the World between Analog and Digital.

“For the 2024 edition,” explains Virginia Monteverde, the creator and curator of the exhibition, “we have chosen the sea as the main theme, an element that not only dialogues with the host city but also opens up deep reflections on the environment, humanity, and our interconnection with nature.”

The exhibition showcases the works of 20 artists, equally divided between Italy and Switzerland. As per the Biennale’s tradition, the selection conveys the diversity and richness of contemporary art from the respective countries, offering the public a vast and varied panorama capable of stimulating reflections and dialogues on the proposed theme.

“… It is perceptible in the VI edition of the Latitudes Biennale Switzerland-Italy an intent to Mediterraneanize thought and imagination to open them up to a liquid paradigm of borders, to a shared scenario in which waves dance arrivals and departures between coastal shores and open sea.” (Viana Conti, from the presentation of the catalogue)

The Biennale Le Latitudini dell’Arte, this year is enriched with three other exhibitions realized in synergy with other museum and institutional realities of the city: at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Villa Croce, the exhibition Presences of Swiss Art in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Villa Croce; at the MEI National Museum of Italian Emigration, the exhibition Limits, Boundaries, and Thresholds; at the University Library of Genoa, the exhibition Display of the project Mosaic on paper.”
